The Ontario Energy Board gave notice July 15 under section 70.2 of the Ontario Energy Board Act, 1998 of proposed amendments to the Standard Supply Service Code (SSSC) to enable electricity consumers on the Regulated Price Plan (RPP) to opt out of time-of-use (TOU) prices and to elect instead to be charged on the basis of tiered pricing.
The OEB held a stakeholder meeting on June 9 with over 100 participants. A 20- member TOU Customer Choice Working Group was then established, comprising distributors, representatives of consumers and other stakeholders. The Working Group met four times in June. Materials from these meetings are posted on the webpage for this initiative.
The proposed amendments follow from a June 1 announcement by the Ontario government of proposed amendments to O. Reg. 95/05 to the same effect, leaving the OEB to develop the applicable rules. The OEB will not implement amendments to the SSSC until such time as the amendments to O. Reg. 95/05 proposed by the government are finalized.
