New regional planning under way for York Region

The Independent Electricity System Operator has announced that the second cycle of regional planning cycle is underway for York Region. An Integrated Regional Resource Plan (IRRP) was posted in February 2020. A Regional Infrastructure Plan (RIP) led by Hydro One will be completed by mid-2020.

          The engagement initiative provides interested parties with an opportunity to offer input for consideration into the development of the IRRP.

          Interested parties include but are not limited to:

• Municipalities including York Region, City of Vaughan, Town of Richmond Hill, City of Markham, Town of Aurora, Town of Newmarket, Township of King, Town of East Gwillimbury, Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville and Town of Georgina

• Indigenous Communities including the Chippewas of Georgina Island

• Local distribution companies who serve the community including Alectra Utilities Corporation, Newmarket-Tay Power Distribution Ltd. and Hydro One

• Transmitters

• Consumers and service providers for the area.

          A Technical Working Group consisting of the local distribution companies in the region, the local transmitter and the IESO will use this regional planning engagement initiative to consider input that will identify and meet local electricity needs. The Working Group, known as the York Region Working Group, includes representatives of Alectra Utilities Corporation, Newmarket-Tay Power Distribution Ltd., Hydro One Networks Inc., and the IESO.
