The Independent Electricity System Operator announced that its Grid Innovation Fund would accept unsolicited applications starting March 31 until April 15, 2020.
The Grid Innovation Fund supports innovation with the potential to achieve significant electricity bill savings for Ontario ratepayers – either by enabling greater competition in Ontario’s electricity markets or by helping customers better manage their energy consumption.
Applications for projects designed to pilot, and in some cases develop, innovative technologies, practices, services, research, and programs are welcomed under the Grid Innovation Fund. Projects must present a significant opportunity for ratepayer savings, either directly by enabling customers to better manage their own electricity use, or indirectly by reducing the costs associated with maintaining a reliable electricity system. This includes projects seeking to increase competition for the provision of products and services in Ontario electricity markets.
With the exception of waste energy recovery initiatives, projects relating to the research, development and demonstration of transmission, distribution and electricity generation (e.g. , solar, wind, waterpower, and fossil fuels) technologies are not eligible for funding.
