Alectra Utilities announced the launch March 1 of a new electric vehicle charging facility in Mississauga, Ontario using a Virtual Power Plant (VPP) made possible through Vancouver’s Enbala technologies.
Located at Alectra’s executive office in Mississauga, the new EV charging facility will demonstrate the value of a VPP that balances the electricity needs and sources of the building, an integrated solar energy storage system and seven EV charging stations. The project aims to mitigate potential cost increases while providing an accessible charging solution for employees that encourages the adoption of EV technology.
Enbala’s platform will collect real-time facility data and market prices from Ontario’s Independent Electricity System Operator to optimize the electricity loads supplied to vehicles and building equipment.
The distributed energy assets will be integrated with the Enbala platform via the cloud and include incorporation of a building automation system that controls rooftop units, seven electric vehicle charging ports, a Sonnen battery and a solar carport inverter.
