Guelph, Ontario: Canadian Solar Inc. announced October 18, along with Biosar Australia, a solar EPC provider, that they will jointly provide Engineering, Procurement and Construction services to a 256 MWp solar power project in Australia for Total Eren, a leading French Independent Power Producer.
The project, Kiamal Solar Farm, is located in Northwest Victoria and has secured several Power Purchase Agreements with energy retailers such as Flow Power and Alinta Energy, and a 20-year PPA with Mars Australia, an international food processing company. Construction began in October and it is expected to reach commercial operation by mid-2019. Over 720,000 of Canadian Solar’s 1500V high efficiency KuMax modules (CS3U-P) will be installed on single-axis solar tracking systems. When completed, it is expected to be the single largest solar power plant in Victoria, Australia, and will produce enough electricity to meet the needs of more than 133,500 homes and displace more than 610,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions annually.
Later, on November 8, Canadian Solar announced that its wholly owned subsidiary Recurrent Energy, LLC had signed a build-transfer agreement (BTA) for a base purchase price of approximately $138.4 million with Entergy Mississippi on a 100 megawatt solar photovoltaic project. The 100 MWac Sunflower solar project, located on approximately 1,000 acres in Sunflower County, Mississippi, is expected to be operational by mid-2022. At that point, Entergy Mississippi will own the facility. One of the first solar BTAs to be signed in the U.S., the company says, the agreement is expected to provide Entergy with the largest utility-owned solar facility in the state of Mississippi, pending approval by the Mississippi Public Service Commission.
