IESO relaunch of Indigenous energy support programs

The Independent Electricity System Operator announced enhancements May 3 to its Indigenous energy support programs “to align them better with First Nations and Métis needs and interests.”

Overall, the IESO says, the enhanced programs feature simplified guidelines and application processes, broadened program eligibility and increased flexibility. Funding is available for eligible communities and organizations to develop and maintain an updated energy plan; hire a designated energy worker; build capacity and job-readiness skills; and assess and develop energy projects and partnerships.

The Indigenous Community Energy Plan (ICEP) Program provides funding to support First Nation and Métis communities and organizations to develop and maintain an updated community energy plan designed to enhance community energy security.

The Indigenous Energy Projects (IEP) Program provides funding support to First Nation and Métis communities and organizations to assess and develop energy projects and partnerships.
