Lock 24
Peterborough Utilities Inc. (PUI) is planning to build hydro generation facility near Locks 31 and 24 on the Trent-Severn Waterway, Global News reported February 28.
Public consultation is still underway, but an environmental assessment has already been completed for a new 2.5-megawatt water power station at Lock 31. Plans are also to build another station at Lock 24 just between Lakefield and Peterborough.
PUI already operates four hydropower stations at three different locations along the river and is looking to expand its power generating capabilities north of the city. Lock 31 will be the furthest power facility to the north of the city.
