Ontario creating a corporation for climate solutions

On December 15, as part of its Climate Change Action Plan, the Ontario Ministry of Environment and Climate Change posted an Information Notice regarding its proposal to establish an Ontario Climate Change Solutions Deployment Corporation by regulation under the Development Corporations Act. After considering a number of comments received, a decision has been made to implement the proposal. O. Reg. 46/17 came into force on February 17, 2017. The public-facing name of the corporation will be announced at a later date.

The corporation’s activities will focus on reducing market barriers to deployment of low-carbon technologies, including through improved access to information, incentives, and strategic use of financial de-risking tools to encourage greater private sector investment, emphasizing absolute greenhouse gas reductions through activities such as fuel-switching, energy storage, use of renewable energy and deep energy retrofits.
