Toronto: Green energy provider Bullfrog Power and Oxford Community Energy Co-operative (OCEC) announced the commissioning January 26 of Ontario's first community-owned wind farm.
Gunn's Hill Wind Farm consists of 10 turbines located in Oxford County, in southwestern Ontario. The project involved the collaboration of OCEC, the County, the Six Nations of the Grand River and organizations that include developer Prowind Canada Inc. and Bullfrog Power, which first announced its support in 2014.
The 18 MW Gunn's Hill Wind Farm is the first community-owned wind farm in Ontario. In September 2015, Oxford County, located between London and Kitchener-Waterloo in southwestern Ontario, adopted a sustainability plan to achieve 100 per cent renewable energy by 2050.
Bullfrog Power, through its community renewable projects program, has supported more than 70 green energy projects across Canada. Recent Bullfrog Power community projects in Ontario include solar panels on Toronto's Kew Beach Junior Public School and North America's first zoo-biogas plant at the Toronto Zoo.
