The IESO has issued a draft Request for Proposals (RFP) for Regulation Service that builds on information received through a Request for Information issued in June 2016. Through various engagement initiatives the IESO has notified market participants that it sees a growing need for regulation, and that it aims to expand the depth of the regulation service market in Ontario.
The IESO held an open period during which it invited comment from interested parties on the draft RFP up to February 10, 2017. Regulation is used to match total system generation to total system load on a minute-by-minute or second-by-second basis, as required on the electricity grid, and helps to correct variations in power system frequency.
