Hydro Ottawa has announced that Canadian Solar will be installing a 4 MW solar field as part of the Ellwood Energy Storage Project. Included in the project is 2.7 MWh battery energy storage component, also built by Canadian Solar. The project will fulfill a 3-year contract with the Independent Electricity System Operator for grid support and voltage control.
The energy storage facility consists of several lithium ion battery modules that will inject energy into or take energy from the grid, in order to assist in grid stabilization in response to commands from the IESO.
