Hydro One updates its transmission rate application

Hydro One recently updated its application to the Ontario Energy Board for approval of new rates for transmission starting in 2017. The original Transmission Cost of Service Application for 2017-2018 was filed on May 31, 2016. This application was made shortly after Hydro One completed a series of consultations with its various Transmission-connected customers (generators, industrial customers, and Local Distribution Companies).

Hydro One filed an update to this Transmission application on July 20, to take into account the latest pension valuation, along with some other adjustments. The updated application, if approved, would result in transmission rate increases of about 3.7 per cent in 2017 (for a total revenue requirement of $1,505 million) and 5.4 per cent in 2018 ($1,586 million).

Subsequently, on July 29, the OEB issued its Procedural Order No. 1 in this matter, setting out some of the key dates for hearing Hydro One’s Transmission Application. The interrogatory process will take place through August, followed by an Executive Presentation by Hydro One to the OEB and intervenors on September 8. A technical conference, if required, would be held on September 22-23. The OEB is anticipating a draft Issues List to be developed by September 26.

The application and related documents may be found on Hydro One’s website.

Further information may be found on the OEB website under the proceeding number EB-2016-0160.
