Micro-cogen part of Trent U energy improvements

Trent University announced December 16 the selection of Ameresco Canada, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Ameresco, Inc., as the contractor for a $15.5 million campus infrastructure project through its Campus Renewal Partnership, a facility-renewal plan funded through energy savings. Over 20 campus buildings are to be upgraded to enhance comfort, deliver energy savings and reduce the University’s carbon footprint.

The upgrades include micro-cogeneration and energy recovery systems for more reliable back-up power, new and re-commissioned air handling units (AHU)/variable air volume (VAV) conversions, which drastically improve ventilation and air quality; pool AHU; HVAC control systems/redesign and equipment; VSD pumps; heating boilers; domestic hot water (DHW) boiler replacement and electric heat conversion, all improving temperature comfort; and lighting retrofits.
