IESO considers input in preparing its business plan

The IESO has been collecting information to be used in the preparation of its business plans for the 2016-2018 period. One of the key inputs has been the assembly of recommendations from the Stakeholder Advisory Committee of the former OPA, which has now been merged with the IESO’s Stakeholder Advisory Committee. Earlier this year participants in both committees were canvassed for suggestions as to key issues for consideration in the business plan.

The IESO has published a detailed report on suggestions received from members of both committees in that process. A few selected examples of those suggestions included the following:

1. Effective contract management / procurement

* Complete procurements currently underway large renewable procurement 1 (LRP1), combined heat and power standard offer program 2 (CHPSOP2) and energy from waste (EFW) then evaluate them along with the non-utility generator (NUG) framework - look to planning to identify future need

2. Market vision to build more efficient markets that can meet adequacy need as contracts expire

3. Monitor and influence policies that could have impact on the sector – i.e. climate change strategy

4. Investigate IESO role in provincial long term planning

5. Focus on transparency in planning initiatives

6. Planning efforts to support procurement needs to ensure lowest cost opportunities

7. First Nations & Metis outreach – building and maintain relationship with focus on remote communities

8. Look for opportunities to provide more transparency in data, performance measures, costs – i.e. breakdown of global adjustment by fuel type for contracted portion of Global Adjustment.
