APPrO invites nominations for the 2015 Hedley Palmer Award

The Board of APPrO has recently invited all members of the power industry to suggest candidates to receive this year’s Hedley Palmer Award. The Hedley Palmer Award is a special form of recognition presented each by APPrO to honour an individual who in the judgment of the APPrO Board has made an outstanding contribution to the Ontario power industry. It has been given to a different individual each year since 1989 during the banquet dinner at the annual IPPSO or APPrO Conference. According to APPrO, it’s the highest honour bestowed annually in the power generation business in Canada.

APPrO Executive Director Jake Brooks asked members of the industry to bring forward the names of any deserving candidates as soon as possible “so that we can have a fulsome discussion about the candidates and come to a decision in the near future.”

Hedley Palmer was the Director of Marketing at Ontario Hydro for a number of years, and he held a number of other positions at Ontario Hydro before that. His work came to APPrO’s attention in the 1980’s when he took a number of steps internally and externally that helped prepare Ontario Hydro to deal with other power suppliers besides itself, and that eventually led to the NUG program and RFP in 1988, although he played no direct role in those initiatives to our knowledge. Mr. Palmer passed away in 2002.

APPrO is asking for all suggestions to be submitted by noon on September 5, and formal nominations by September 10. “The Hedley Palmer Award is a unique opportunity to focus industry attention on someone who you feel is particularly deserving of recognition,” Brooks said.
