The Ontario branch of Senvion Canada Inc., a subsidiary of Hamburg-based Senvion SE, recently announced the completion of commissioning of Oxley wind farm in Essex County, the southernmost county in Ontario. The facility features three Senvion MM92 type turbines on 100 m towers, adapted for cold climates. The three turbines have an installed capacity of 6 MW.
The wind project has been developed by Oxley Wind Farm Inc., founded by Glen Estill and Henry Verhoeven. It is Senvion’s first Ontario project out of a pipeline of about 200 MW the German wind turbine supplier has contracted in the province so far.
In December 2012, Senvion signed six additional contracts for wind farms in southern Ontario. With the signing the company decided to invest in a blade factory within the province.
The new blade facility will be responsible for the production of the 45 meter long Senvion blades for the MM92 CCV, the company’s best-selling turbine. In a second phase, the factory will produce blades for its 3 MW type turbine.
