US-based security manufacturer Southwest Microwave will be bringing its “Perimeter Defense” seminar to Canada this spring, focused on helping Canadian companies learn about new high tech security options. Taking place in Toronto on May 6th, the seminar is designed for owners and operators of generating stations interested in becoming more proficient in the techniques and technologies for protecting against intrusion at generating sites.
Comprehensive security systems are important to generators for a number of reasons. Owners and operations of power facilities are known to face such issues as infrastructural attack, materials theft and liability risk, which can be accompanied by high costs and operational downtime.
According to Maira Zanrosso, the company’s Director of Marketing, the session is “a unique opportunity to learn about the principles of perimeter security, and to understand the benefits and limitations of today’s protection technologies based on specific application challenges.” Zanrosso notes that the event will examine a broad range of perimeter intrusion detection solutions available in today’s marketplace, including but not limited to those from Southwest Microwave.
“Seminar moderators will address technologies and system design considerations to maximize identification and prevention of attacks on utility sites”, said Zanrosso. She described the range of technologies to be examined as including intelligent fence and buried systems that locate intrusion attempts to within 10 ft and tie into CCTV for precise identification of threats, and digital microwave sensors with next-generation signal processing capabilities to maximize probability of detection and minimize nuisance alarms.
“We also explore perimeter security from a business perspective, examining the scope of costs involved in implementation and maintenance of a perimeter system to isolate the value of particular site protection strategies and maximize return on investment.”
Southwest Microwave has protected utility sites worldwide for more than 40 years, noting that, “These sessions allow us to apply our experience in a consultative role to assist end-users in security sensitive environments toward making responsible decisions for the protection of their perimeter layer.”
