In October, the Portlands Energy Centre, a gas-fired power plant in downtown Toronto, was honored as a finalist for the Canadian Urban Institute (CUI) ‘Brownie’ Awards. The Brownie awards are held to recognize leadership, innovation and environmental sustainability in brownfield redevelopment across Canada. The power plant was singled out for its ecological sustainability initiatives in two categories: Sustainable Remediation Technologies and Technical Innovation; and Communications, Marketing and Public Engagement.
