Ontario has re-launched the Small Feed-in Tariff program. The OPA began accepting applications on December 14 for renewable energy projects more than 10 and up to 500 kilowatts. Changes based on the recommendations of the FIT two-year review include clarification of the land use rules applicable to ground-mounted solar projects proposed in rural areas, and encouraging greater community and Aboriginal participation by using a new points system. Applications with more community or Aboriginal involvement will receive more points and be prioritized over other applications; setting aside megawatts for projects with more than 50 per cent community or Aboriginal participation. FIT program prices were reduced by an average of 20 per cent for solar projects and by approximately 15 per cent for wind projects. The Small FIT window closed on January 18.
