City, Toronto Hydro to install 8800 rooftop PV panels

 

Scarborough, ON: Jim Baxter, City of Toronto, Councillor Michael Thompson (Ward 37) and Jack Simpson, Toronto Hydro, at McGregor Park Arena in Scarborough at the official launch of a joint program between the City of Toronto and Toronto Hydro. It will see 10 City-owned buildings outfitted with more than 8,800 solar panels.

          The program actually got underway in early September with installation at three city facilities: Mimico Arena, York Mills Arena and Goulding Park Community Centre/Arena. The electricity generated will be purchased under the terms of Feed-in-Tariff contracts with the Ontario Power Authority. The PV installations will generate approximately 2,600 megawatt-hours of electricity annually.
