BC village smart grid to provide half its power

Federal Natural Resources Minister Amarjeet Sohi announced an investment of $2.3 million August 26 for the Kwikwasut'inuxw Haxwa'mis First Nation to install a hybrid smart-grid solar photovoltaic battery system in the remote village of Gwa'yasdams, British Columbia.

By integrating the PV battery system with the village's existing diesel power plant, the project will generate reliable clean energy to the village, supplying half of its electrical needs and 72-hours of energy storage, reducing fuel consumption by more than 50 percent. Kwikwasut’inuxw Haxwa’mis First Nation is the lead proponent.

The project will include system design, engineering, procurement, construction, installation and commissioning of a PV, battery energy storage system integrated with the diesel power plant.
