ENMAX to supply federal government’s power in Alberta

Calgary: ENMAX Energy Corporation announced March 17 that it had been chosen as the exclusive supplier for the Government of Canada’s electricity needs in Alberta until 2021.

Just over half of the power will go towards Department of National Defence needs while the remaining portion will support other federally-owned buildings. ENMAX secured the contract following a public tender process.

Since 2001, ENMAX has supplied electricity to the Government of Canada in Alberta and throughout the new term, will also provide a significant number of Renewable Energy Certificates. In particular, about 90 per cent of the overall Department of National Defence electricity requirements will be offset by renewable energy sources. Where possible, ENMAX will also support efficiency programs to help the government meet its overall commitment of offsetting GHG emissions.

In addition to meeting electricity needs, ENMAX continues to work with the Government of Canada to support their emission reduction goals in Alberta by sharing expertise in renewable energy technologies and engineering services for better energy management.
