Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) announced in May the opening consultations on proposed changes to Canada’s Greenhouse Gas Emissions Reporting Program (GHGRP).
ECCC is proposing to expand the reporting requirements under the GHGRP, including:
• Lowering the reporting threshold from 50 to 10 kilotonnes.
• Phasing in requirements for additional data and specific quantification methods.
• Identifying sectors and activities for the first phase (2017 reported data): manufacturers of cement, lime, iron & steel and aluminum, as well as carbon capture, transport and geological storage.
The GHGRP is holding consultations from May 5th to June 30th, during which stakeholders may review the proposed changes and requirements, and provide comments. Consultation materials are available here. Comments can be submitted at
