Quebec city: Quebec's Energy and Natural Resources Minister, Pierre Arcand, and Jean D'Amour, Minister for the Lower St-Laurent region, announced the greenlighting May 27 of the Nicolas-Riou SEC windfarm. The $500 million windfarm will consist of 65 turbines, each rated at 3.3 MW, providing a maximum capacity of 224.4 MW, making it the largest community-owned wind facility in the province.
"This project, following the recent request for proposals by Hydro-Québec Distribution for 4,000 MW of windpower to be added to Quebec's grid, will contribute to the provincial 2006-2015 energy strategy," said Mr. Arcand.
