ATCO Power Canada Ltd. is proposing to design, build, and operate the Great Plains generating station, a 350 megawatt natural gas fired combined cycle gas turbine electricity generation station approximately 11 km northwest of Swift Current, Saskatchewan. In addition to the power plant, the proposed project also includes water source and wastewater disposal pipelines.
To determine whether an environmental assessment would be required, the Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency invited public comments until March 7 on the project and its potential for causing adverse environmental effects.
Officials say SaskPower will award the project by July 2016. Planned operation of the Station is set to begin in October of 2019.
