Hydro-Quebec’s most recent wind batch of wind contracts are priced an average of 6.3 cents per kWh, CanWEA’s magazine Windsight reported in its spring issue. The figure, for a total of 446.4 MW (out of an RFP for 450 MW), represents a 28% decrease from the utility’s last large-scale windpower procurement in 2008.
CanWEA says the figure highlights wind’s competitiveness, and adds that a strong domestic market, as indicated by procurements of this size, are important in building and maintaining a strong supply chain.
The magazine says the provincial government is planning to table a new energy policy in the fall.
