Flared gas to provide 3MW

Calgary: IPP developer Genalta Power Inc. announced October 11 that they have entered into an agreement to generate electricity from gas that is currently being flared at a Husky Energy production site in western Alberta.

The Cadotte Waste Fuel to Power Project will generate 3 MW of power, enough for nearly every home in the nearby town of Peace River.

The facility represents a solution to local public concerns by reduce flaring at the site by over 80%. The project is forecast to be commissioned by mid-2012, and will sell the power into the local distribution grid.

“Genalta Power and Husky have been developing this project for over a year,” said Graham Illingworth, Genalta CEO, “and we are very excited to be developing a model for environmental performance and sustainable development that can be adopted across the industry.”

Genalta Power will design, construct, own and operate the power generation facility.
