Halifax, NS: Nova Scotia has confirmed a new record for renewable generation in the province May 5. Nova Scotia Power’s power production operators reported that wind energy generation reached 250 megawatts (MW) at 12:00am on Sunday, April 24, representing 20 per cent of the province’s electricity generation at the time. That surpassed the previous record of 235 MW of generation set at 8:00 am on Thursday, April 14.
“This is an exciting milestone for Nova Scotia. Recent projects coming online mean that wind energy can now power tens of thousands of homes in our province,” said Mark Sidebottom, General Manager, Power Production, NS Power. “We’re committed to building more sources of clean, renewable energy that will provide value to customers by shifting our energy mix away from fossil fuels, which are volatile in price.”
