SaskPower announced April 6 that it is proposing to build a new transmission line to help meet the growing needs of the oil and gas industry in the southwest area of the province. The 230-kilovolt transmission line would supply service to the TransCanada Corporation Keystone Fox Valley site, approximately 14 kilometres southwest of Fox Valley.
“Saskatchewan’s oil industry is a major economic force and employer in the province,” said Rob Norris, Minister responsible for SaskPower. “SaskPower is working hard to support growth in this important sector and throughout the economy by ensuring the province has a sustainable, affordable supply of electricity.”
Alternative routes are currently under consideration for the proposed transmission line project.
“The preferred options will be those that minimize agricultural, environmental, social and economic impacts” said Robert Watson, SaskPower President and Chief Executive Officer. “We welcome the valuable input of our customers, industry and all stakeholders.”
