Various news feeds report that the power for the operation of the cities of Sydney and Adelaide in New South Wales, Australia, are now completely supplied by renewable sources, wind and solar farms in regional NSW. Included are all city-owned and operated buildings and other facilities like street lights, traffic lights, sports fields, water pumps and the like.
IT Wire reports Sydney council as saying that around three-quarters of the power will be wind-generated, and the remaining quarter by solar, and the project will see the City source renewable energy from three different generators – the 120 MW Bomen Solar Farm in Wagga Wagga, the 270 MW Sapphire Wind Farm near Inverell and the 3 MW Shoalhaven solar farm in Nowra. Renew Economy reports that a power purchase agreement with Flow Power will supply Adelaide, from the 56.7MW Clements Gap wind farm, plus another 8 MW from two solar farms to begin operations around the middle of the year.
