A new Leaderboard Report from Navigant Research examines the strategy and execution of 16 vendors of distributed energy resources management systems (DERMS) for DER and grid management providers, with Siemens and Enbala Power Networks ranked as the leading market players.
Distributed energy resources (DER) have traditionally been isolated, but Navigant points out that this paradigm is changing as adoption drivers grow and the number of installations rises. A new wave of technologies developed to manage DER, including DERMS, presents opportunities and challenges for vendors and utilities.
“Siemens and Enbala offer comprehensive solutions that can be tailored to operate in a wide variety of regulatory environments and by different actors in the power market such as market operators, system operators, energy suppliers, or aggregators,” says Roberto Rodriguez Labastida, senior research analyst at Navigant Research. “These companies have differentiated themselves from the competition through exceptional product performance, strong vendor partnerships, and a sustainable business model.”
According to the report, as the roles of stakeholders evolve – from the end customer to the utility and all the way up to policymakers – there are still many questions as to how DER will be optimally managed. In today’s market, incumbent IT/operational technology (OT) vendors, new entrants, and startups have approached product development from different perspectives, creating a diverse landscape of frameworks, many vendors and a highly competitive atmosphere.
The report, Navigant Research Leaderboard: DERMS Vendors, examines the strategy and execution of 16 leading vendors offering DERMSs for DER and grid management solutions. These providers are rated on 12 criteria: vision; go-to-market strategy; partners; product integration strategy; technology; geographic reach; sales, marketing, and distribution; product performance; product quality and reliability; product portfolio and ecosystem; pricing; and staying power. Using Navigant Research’s proprietary Leaderboard methodology, vendors are profiled, rated, and ranked with the goal of providing an objective assessment of their relative strengths and weaknesses in the global DERMS market.
