Northland Power to develop 300 MW wind in Taiwan, partners with KEPCO

The online magazine Offshore Wind reported in late December that MHI Vestas had signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Northland Power and Yushan Energy to provide wind turbines for the 300MW Hai Long offshore wind farm in Taiwan.

Northland Power and Yushan Energy secured grid capacity in April for the development of the 300MW project.

The MoU is subject to certain conditions, such as that the developers of the 300MW project sign a power purchase agreement this year or in 2019, and that the Feed-in Tariff (FiT) remains stable relative to the 2018 price.

AJU Daily also reported on November 21 that Northland Power has forged an alliance with KEPCO E&C, a power plant design and engineering company involved in a major offshore wind farm project off the southern resort island of Jeju, south of the tip of South Korea. Under a memorandum of understanding, the two companies will jointly participate in wind farm projects at home and abroad.

Cooperation will be made in enhancing competitiveness and expertise in floating offshore wind farm facilities.

KEPCO E&C is a contractor in a 500 billion won ($486 million) project to build a 100-megawatt offshore wind power cluster off the coastal town of Hanlim in Jeju. KEPCO controls 29 percent in a special purpose company and KEPCO E&C owns five percent.
