UK beats own record for offshore wind farm

Sinking the foundation support. Photo: Ørsted Reuters reported in early September that the world’s largest offshore wind farm, the Walney Extension Project, had begun operation off the northwest coast of England, with a capacity of 659 megawatts. Comprising 87 8-MW turbines from Siemens Gamesa and MHI Vestas, it supplants the previous record holder, the 630 MW London Array, off of England’s east coast.

The contract sets a minimum price for electricity of £150 per MWh for 15 years. The Walney Extenstion Project is by Danish energy group Orsted.
