AT&T makes one of largest renewable energy deals

Telecommunications giant AT&T announced February 8 having agreed to purchase 520 MW of wind power from NextEra Energy Resources in what it called one of the largest-ever corporate renewable energy deals in the US.

AT&T will purchase 220 MW of power from the Minco V Wind Farm located in Caddo County, Oklahoma and 300 MW from a wind farm in Webb and Duval Counties in Texas.

Globally, new corporate power purchase agreements (PPAs) for renewable energy rose by 26% in 2017 to 5.4 GW, driven by sustainability initiatives and falling renewable energy costs, Bloomberg New Energy Finance (BNEF) said January 22.

According to BNEF, some 2.8 GW of PPAs were signed by U.S. businesses in 2017, up 19% year-on-year.

In Europe, 1 GW of new corporate PPAs were signed, mainly in Netherlands, Norway and Sweden, BNEF said.
