Duke replaces HF Lee coal-fired plant with gas

 

Photo courtesy Duke EnergyBoilers at Duke Energy’s 63-year-old HF Lee coal-fired power plant in Goldsboro, NC are brought down in a controlled explosion June 20. As part of a multi-year program, Duke Energy has been replacing old coal-fired power plants with natural gas or cleaner coal. The company had retired nine plants in the Carolinas by the end of 2013.

          The old HF Lee plant has been replaced with a 920-MW gas-fired plant.
