President Obama recently issued an Executive Order to advance industrial energy efficiency. The EO calls for a 50-percent increase in CHP by 2020, and it directs federal agencies to cooperate among themselves and with states in order to advance cogeneration and waste energy recovery. Part of that cooperation will expand federal efforts to highlight CHP as a pollution control option that meets the new Boiler MACT (maximum-achievable control technology) standards. Endorsements flowed from a wide assortment of associations, including the United Steelworkers, American Chemistry Council, and Environmental Defense Fund.
