Offshore wind hits the big time

The world’s largest and Canada’s first offshore windfarm were both announced in recent weeks. New York State has called for proposals to build wind generation in Lake Ontario. The new technology may be on the verge of a growth spurt, benefiting from years of research in conventional wind turbines and the ability to avoid land-use issues associated with onshore wind developments.
